Getting Around Portugal

We're going to be staying at an Air B and B in Sintra for 8 nights. In We plan on going into Lisbon for a couple of day and enjoy a couple of days on the beaches in Agarve (with a one-night overnight). My head is spinning with all of the information about the best way to get around. Can anyone help me cut through it all:
What's the best way to get from the Lisbon Airport to Sintra? Our B and B is just outside the village.
Should we rent a car for the entire visit?
What's the best way to get to Agarve from Sintra?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Alan

You won't need a car for the days you want to see Sintra, and there is a convenient train for Lisbon. You could just pick up a car for the days you want to tour around. We picked up a rental car in Sintra.

It is a fairly long drive to the Algarve. I would personally want to spend more than 1 night if I was going to drive there. There are some nice beaching spots closer to Sintra that you could also consider.

If you want beaches, there are many great places closer than the Algarve. I wouldn’t spend half a day in each direction just for one night there.

Lisbon Airport to Sintra - taxi is easier or it’s a bus and train combination.

Depending on what you want to see around Sintra, a car may not be necessary and you certainly don’t want to be driving in Lisbon.
