Funchal is our first European stop on a cruise in April . We would like to pick-up a SIM card for use in Portugal, Spain and Italy: talk and text.
We have an iPhone 7+ and an iPhone SE gen 2.
Is/are there a place[s] near the cruise terminal to purchase a SIM that would be valid for 3 weeks?

And couldn't he order an e-sim ahead of time from one of the companies?
There will be some place in the center of town, but you have to walk quite a ways before you hit any shops. There will be taxis. When we took a taxi back to the ship, (just two months ago), it was a reasonable fixed rate. You could also try inside the Cruise Terminal. This could be something crew members buy frequently.
This is one of the most beautiful islands around and is worth having a good tour. I don't know the name of our guide or the company, unfortunately. Someone else on Cruise Critic organized it.
