My hostal owner assures me that when I travel from Salamanca into Portugal via train there are no controls to ensure I had a Covid test. Has anyone had any recent experience with this? I have my U.S. vax card but it seems only the EU cards pack any legitimacy. TIA
First, I would check very carefully to make certain you can actually travel from Salamanca to Portugal by train. I am unaware of any trains that cross the border other than from Madrid to Lisbon. Bus, car or flight are the usual ways to get from Spain into Portugal.
That said, the border isn’t controlled on the ground. It’s much like going from state to state. So, I can’t see how they would check. And the train stations themselves don’t have any type of passport control, much less covid test checks. One simply gets on the appointed train and a staff person (sometimes) checks your ticket during the trip.
Portugal has been accepting US vaccination cards for restaurants, etc. when that was still required. Just not for flying.
There are regional trains between Vigo and Porto as well. And with the new high speed line to Galicia, Vigo is pretty easy to reach from Salamanca.
I'm sorry. I meant travel by bus. It's early here. 😁. Thank you for responses. It seems I can get through with no test. Hopefully I can fly home to the US when it's time to leave...I see there is a high rate of infection right now in Portugal. Can Covid be over already??!!! Thank you again for replies
