From Lisbon to Sagres: coastal or inland?

Hi!

I was wondering if we should take the coastal road instead of the inland road (A2) to get from Lisboa to Sagres. Is it worth the extra hour ?

Thanks!

Recent road day trip in May. North 266 from Portima. Monchique to Aljezur. Clear day and views in all direction from above Alijezur. South on N120 and N268. Carrapaterira beaches were west on dirt roads from N268. N120 and N268 are two lane roads. The ocean views are nice at Sagres. It is an area that is dry and windy. The area is not a favorite of mine. Now, to your question if speed is your goal take IC1 South, West on the Toll road and further on the non toll road. The local road east /west is slow. The interior road south may have sites or may not and some may require side west or east trips. If I were to drive south from Lisboa I would do a stay over at Odemira, Odeceixe or Aljezur. The lorry drivers in Portugal do not like to pay tolls, they will be on E2.

There isn't a coastal road as such, as it travels slightly inland and you have to keep venturing to the coast at various points and back out. This road takes about double the time of the motorway, rather than an additional hour.

The motorway route isn't that interesting but it gets you from A to B promptly.

Why Sagres? It's cold and windy, even in August! Popular with surfers.
