My daughter and I are staying in Braga for the week, and we want to take a day to go to the beach/coast for a day. Any advice on how to get out there??? We do not have a car.

You would be best hiring a car, as it's cheap in Portugal and the driving is easy. Public transport here is poor, especially at the weekend.
The nearest coast is either Esposende or Apulia, both c 30 minutes drive from Braga. There is no rail service and the local bus takes 1 h 30 and 1h 45m to these resorts respectively each way.
