From Batalha to Alcobaca by bus

I will be visiting Portugal and I'd like to see the monasteries in Batalha and Alcobaca. What I want to do is get up early and take a bus from Lisbon to Batalha and then take another bus to Alcobaca to spend the night. The RS guide book says there are 8 buses per day from Batalha to Alcobaca and that the trip takes 30 minutes. However, I can't find any evidence of this bus online. https://www.rede-expressos.pt/en/

Has anyone done this trip by bus and if so, can you please advise how it worked for you? Thank you!

Rome2Rio.com says you have to teavel south to Rio Maior and change buses. That is not necessarily true, but you can go to that website and drill down to a link for the bus company. Occasionally there is a bus that Rome2Rio doesn't know about, which may be what is happening here. I'd be surprised if the RS guide book is that far off-base, however, Google didn't turn up any evidence of that bus, either.

We appear to be talking about a distance of 15-20 miles, so the taxi fare would probably not be crazy expensive. You could mentally budget for that, then check on bus availability once you're in Portugal. This trip will probably work best on a non-holiday weekday.

I was in a similar situation on a trip to Portugal decades ago, and I ended up taking a one-day bus tour so I could easily hit several small towns that were not well-connected by public buses.

Thank you acraven. Good idea--I'll think about taking a taxi if the bus doesn't work out.
