flying from Lisbon to Sao Miguel island

My husband and I would like to fly to Sao Miguel Island on April 3rd. Has anyone used Rio 2 Rome booking for their airline tickets? And/or would you refer a different service to book tickets? It's quite different--we're surprised how many little details are charged and of course by the overhead bag only being 10kg. That's hard to fathom. Thanks

The overwhelming majority of savvy travelers here all speak with a single voice on the subject of where to book your flight tickets: unless you have a very good reason to do otherwise (and you might, but in most cases most people don't)...it's nearly always best to book flights directly through the airline operating the flight, rather than some third-party (for many reasons).

Do you have a specific reason you're not booking the flight directly with the airline that operates it? That generally simplifies things considerably (and especially if something goes sideways).

TAP Air Portugal, or SATA/Air Azores are the two carriers that have a near duopoly on this route. I've flown both and they're perfectly fine, normal airlines, will fly them again without any hesitation.

Limited carry-on baggage is very common on European airlines. Best to make your peace with it one way or another.

I agree with David - book direct with airline. We flew Tap to the Azores and it worked out well. What you are seeing in the travel sites are the cheapest, most limited tickets. Tap has multiple levels of tickets and their website shows the differences for each fare including seat selection, carryon and checked bag allowances.

The 10 kilo (22 lbs) overhead bag limit (along with size limits are a godsend for European air travel). No more Americans hogging all the overhead bins with huge carryons.

Hi Scott.... LOL ...OMG I know EXACTLY what you mean. It's hysterical to see people with these 'steamer' trunks and overhead luggage and checked bags all for just a weekend. I do have a smaller rollerbag that I'll be using--bought for previous trips to Europe and my husband has a duffel bag. My concern is going from beaches to mountains, sun to rain--possibly snow, plus the little gifts that we bring from here for those we stay with or those who help us along the way. It's a tight fit with possible weight issues. Guess I'll fill up my pockets and wear as many clothes as possible too LOL As we get closer though we'll have a better idea about the weather in each of the regions we'll be visiting. We'll make it work. :) We're really looking forward to our first visit to Portugal.
