In planning an itinerary for my October trip, I wanted to see the schedule and ticket prices for FlixBus from Coimbra to Porto. The website only shows one bus in the wee hours of the morning for October dates BUT if I search in May , there are numerous time options. I’m thinking that they don’t load all the time slots for October until closer to the date. Is my assumption correct, in your experience? Also, I don’t like spending money on fees. The online service fee is 3.99. Couldn’t I just wait and purchase the ticket at the station a day or two ahead of time, thus probably no service fee?

Flix Bus only have a handful of travel shops- almost all in Germany, none in Portugal, so you have to buy on line and pay the fee. Flix Bus use on street stops whenever they can, not coach stations, to save on costs.
It'll be way too early yet for any coach operator to have loaded schedules and fares. It's the same in the UK, they don't load schedules beyond a few months and keep changing the routes.
By the time you've added on fees Rede Expressos are probably better value- they are essentially the National Express of Portugal, and have an even more frequent service, although currently loaded only until early May.
