Flights from Porto to the US

I’m looking at the Portugal trip this coming spring with RICK STEVES but I’m trying to figure out how to get home from Porto. It seems like the flights are really long. I’m wondering if it would be a better idea to fly from Porto to Lisbon and get home that way,
any thoughts?

Oh, forgot that.
Albuquerque, but we could fly to Philadelphia, Dallas or any other international airport.
As I was searching flights, it didn’t seem very easy to get home from Porto. I thought it might be easier to fly from Porto to Lisbon and catch a flight home from there.
I was looking at American Airlines, United and Delta. I also found TAP, which is airline from Portugal.

Porto is not a major city. It has a fair number of regional flights (to other cities in Europe), but only a few long-haul trans-Atlantic flights. If "home" is in North America, you will only have a few (literally, just four or five, I think) options to fly nonstop between Porto and cities in the eastern USA/Canada (Newark, JFK, Boston, Toronto, Montreal). Unless you want to take one of those flights (United has nonstop service to Porto from Newark), you will probably need to connect in some larger European city. Lisbon would be an obvious choice nearby, but you can get from Porto to lots of other major European hubs easy enough. Getting "home" from Porto to the western USA in a single day can get tricky (same is true when flying from smaller European cities to western USA/Canada, the timing of flights and the need to get an early start can complicate it).

If you share where "home" is and what time of year you are looking at it would help others answer your question.

Ah, OK, out west. That will complicate things.

You may find it challenging to get al the way from Porto to Albuquerque in a single day. The key will be to get an early start. Look at United's nonstop from Porto to Newark, then connect to somewhere near Albuquerque. If that direct flight from Porto on United wont work, look at options via Lisbon, but you will need to start with as early a flight to Lisbon as possible.

Those of us in the western US often find it hard to get all the way home in just one day if we are not starting in a major European hub city. (The airline schedules and the earth's rotation are working against us...).

AA and UAL seem to have routings with the shortest travel time of ~18 hrs.

Happy hunting!

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights to ABQ from EWR. Jet Blue has a flight from JFK, but I would not do that transfer for anything.

What month? That could be a factor, too, so check flight availability carefully.

Porto is the kind of city that has highly "seasonal" flight schedules - in the summer (and to some extent, spring and fall), it's a popular tourist destination, but in winter, demand drops way off. So flight schedules follow that demand: you will have more options during summer, fewer during winter or shoulder seasons.

Take a look at TAP and Iberia.
