I am in the process of buying plane tickets for September, into and out of Lisbon, to spend 1 week between Lisbon and Porto. I notice that airfare is much less expensive for the first week of September (traveling on Labor Day) as compared to all of the following weeks.
Is there some obvious disadvantage to traveling to Portugal at that time? I assume it will be a bit warmer than a few weeks later, but otherwise-is there something else that I am missing? (such as closures during that week?) Thank you!
The only disadvantage I can think of is that early September is still high tourist season. I’m surprised the airfare is cheaper. There are no holidays at that time. It will still be hot but usually zero rain. Schools don’t open until mid September so it will still be crowded. If you’re a beach person, the water will be at its warmest.
If you do end up here in early September, the Lumina Festa de Luz is returning to Cascais the 12-14th of September. It’s a pretty spectacular light show at night where there are unique displays all over town. It would be something to see other than the usual tourist attractions.
Thanks very much!
