This will be my family's first European trip and we are very excited to go to Portugal in March. We arrive in Lisbon and then want to rent a car and spend 3 days in the Nazare/Tomar areas then back to Lisbon for the last 3 days. Any advice on where to go/stay for the first 3 days? Thanks so much - Kristen
We spent three nights in Tomar and took a couple day trips from it. We stayed at the Thomar Boutique Hotel. Nazaré is an hour’s drive from Tomar. We also spent two night in Nazaré. It is a stereotypical beach town.
Thank you for the input
Honestly with such a short trip (first time in PT) I would recommend dividing your time between Lisbon and Porto. Both are very interesting and will offer far more to see and do than Nazare and Tomar. Transport between the two is the fast and affordable AP trains on Combos de Portugal https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en.
On your three day explorations, skip touristy Nazare. Do not stay there! In fact, skip it.
Visit the beautiful towns of Alcobaça, Tomar, Batalha and Evora. They are in the “ don’t miss” category! If you have time, add the university town of Coimbra, wonderful!
Thank you everyone for the advice!
