My friend and I are going to be in Portugal for 12 days the end of April. Flying in and out of Lisbon. We have 3 nights booked in Lisbon and 2 nights in Sintra. Want to head to Port and spend a couple of nights there. What to do in between? I am thinking Evora is a little out of the way. We are happy to drive. We like spending a couple of nights in each place also. Love seafood and beautiful sights. Aveiro? Coimbra? Anything great I am missing? We are fairly fit in our early 50s.
I would include Porto. And Evora and Coimbra would be excellent additions. Evora was a favorite of ours and I highly suggest that you include it.
Can you fly in and out of Lisbon and Porto (multi-city)? If you fly round-trip from North America to and from Lisbon, go to Porto on arrival day by direct bus from Lisbon’s airport (3h 45m).
No need to sleep in Sintra since it’s an easy day trip from Lisbon; the same with Evora. If you can, sleep in the tree-lined hilly Alfama neighborhood in Lisbon. Also, make sure you download Rick Steves app on your phone so you can take his Lisbon City Walk.
I would add Evora, Coimbra and Porto. You could do Evora and Sintra as day trips but it would be too rushed for my taste. I think 2 nights in each is good. Note that a few top attractions in Lisbon are currently temporarily closed (Museu Nacional do Azulejo, National Museum of Ancient Art and Calouste Gulbenkian Museum).
We spent nights in Óbidos, Nazaré, Tomar, and Coimbra. The first two can be seen as day trips if need be. To me, Aveiro was worth a couple hours at most. We had a rental car.
