Staying in Porto 4 days, next week, then to Obidos for 2 nights. From these places how can we visit with a quick tour to Fatima, or bus/train after leaving Obidos? Any help is appreciated as I can not finaly anything but a three village tour from Lisbon.
Thanks Richard
Obidos and Fatima are around 60 miles apart by road. The problem is that the buses are very Lisbon-oriented, so going across country is not easy.
The long-distance bus network (Rede-Expressos) does not serve Obidos but does serve the nearby town of Caldas da Rainha, some 6 miles away.
The Rede Expressos timetable (www.rede-expressos.pt) suggests that one can leave Caldas da Rainha at 1010am arriving at 1240 with a change of bus in Leiria. The fare is only 12 Euros but yes, a 2hr 30 minute journey for a 60 mile trip as the bus goes a long way round. There is a return journey at 6pm, again with a change of bus in Leiria. I guess you would get to see some pleasant countryside.
Why don't you rent a car upon leaving Porto and you will have more flexibility with transport to visit Obidos and Fatima.
The whole trip by driving is 1 hour.
Thanks for the response. I was afraid that would be the answer. I was hoping for the magical solution. Whatever short comings there is in transportation they do a better job than we do in the US. Richard
