Hi, is it possible to do a day trip to Seville from Faro?
That seems impractical to me; travel time (even if you had your own car) would be so long you'd have only a half day or so in Seville, a city that I think needs at least three full days.
There's no rail service. You can explore bus schedules on the websites of the companies that link Faro and Seville:
Alsa (major Spanish bus line; quite a few departures)
Rede Expressos (Portuguese bus company; multiple departures; you must click on "International" in order to see Seville as a possible destination.)
Flixbus (international company; very few departures)
Portugal and Spain are in different time zones; you lose an hour traveling east and regain it as you return to Portugal. The actual travel time by bus is usually under 3 hours each way, but that doesn't include the time spend getting from your lodgings to the bus station in Faro or from the bus station in Seville to the things you want to see.
The earliest you can be there is 13.45 and the return times are 16.00 or 23.30 (arrives Faro at 01.30). Neither make for a great day out IMO. The Spanish eat late, so the later bus wouldn’t give you much time for dinner, which usually starts around 22.00.
Faro wouldn’t be my choice of where to stay in the Algarve. It’s a working city and a bit functional.
It takes over 2h to get there and then you have to park your car; a bus takes longer. You need a full day for Sevilla not a half day.
Thanks all for your replies and information!! We’ll have to rework our schedule and see what makes sense. We’re only there for 9 days so it doesn’t look feasible for this trip. Next time for sure. Thanks again!
