Hi - we are spending 2 or 3 nights each in both Porto and Lisbon this spring with our children 9 and 13.
Looking for recommendations for simple, safe, relatively peaceful, not expensive accommodation that would suit us for a short stay. Apartments or hotels.
Any personal recommendations really appreciated or suggestions of areas to stay in.
Many thanks!
hey hey Greenlane
what are your exact dates, spring is around the bend? many places have been booked months ago. it's spring break and easter time.
where are you flying from USA/Canada/Europe? if a long flight, be careful of jetlag, feeling woozy/tired next day. check in to hotels/apts are 2-4pm, check out is 10-11am. which doesn't give you much time, then repack and get to next stop. do you have transportation getting to porto from lisbon?
look at booking.com to see what's available, what amenities (A/C, elevator/lift, stairs.steps, cancellation policies, how many beds, list all in family) you have 4 people in your group and have no clue what your "not expensive" means. list your budget in euros.
i would be looking yesterday for accomodations, cheapest is not always best. pack light and make sure all can carry their own bags
good luck and have a great time

The InPatio Guesthouse in Porto is the most amazing B&B ever , book early.
We stayed at the apartment below (see link) several years ago, the location was great. There is a place around the corner, Confeitaria Nacional, that we enjoyed for breakfast, they also had great hot chocolate. The owner of the apartment arranged for a driver to take us on a day trip to Sintra, which was lovely.
I stayed four nights at the Four Points in Matosinhos (north of the river) and loved it. Rooms were big and clean, fantastic breakfast, the beach a block away, bus stop the same. Lots of decent places to eat and a huge supermarket all right there. 1 euro bus ride into Porto central (lets off right by the market). You'd need two rooms, but they are about $110/night depending on the dates.

Can you give more specific location information or sign name of this place?
