Hello all! I will be traveling to Portugal for the first time and plan on going on a food tour while in Porto. I am considering Beyond the Barrel as well as Taste Porto. Has anyone taken tours with either of these companies? How was your experience and which do you recommend? Thanks.

Last year we took the Taste Porto tour. The guide was funny, knowledgeable, and we had a wide variety of food. We took that tour after we visited the Bolhão Market. If I had to do it again, I would take the tour first and then visit the market as many of the stops at the market were redundant from our earlier visit to the market. What I liked most about the tour is that we went beyond the tourist areas and tried some foods from the different neighborhoods. If you are there in the summer, you must try the naughty rice. It is a summer staple made with the most fabulous Douro tomatoes.
