Evora - where to stay and recommended private tour operators

We will be in Evora for three nights in March 2023 and want some suggestions on where to stay. We will be arriving by bus from the Algrave and leaving by train to Lisbon. We would like to be in the historic area.

We would like to visit Estremoz and/or Elvas from Evora and we are hoping someone has a suggestion for a private tour operator in Evora. All the tours we can find leave from Lisbon, and the bus options are unworkable despite the short distances.

We have stayed twice at Albergaria Do Calvario. It is located inside the walled city and very convenient. The very reasonable accommodations are comfortable, the staff very kind and helpful, and the breakfast amazing. I would ask the hotel to recommend a tour operator. All of their recommendations for a local tour and dining options were excellent. My recommendation for dining starts with Taberna Tipica Quarta Feira for a taste of the amazing food of Alentejo run by a wonderful family. Be sure to reserve.

I second the recommendations above. After a harrowing drive from Lisbon airport, we arrived at Albergaria. We drove through the town wall, and then one has to make a pretty sharp turn to the right. There was a tour bus blocking the street, so we had to drive through the narrow streets to make a second try. We were to relieved to finally make it into the hotel's courtyard. They took us into the foyer, and said they'd park the car. Yippee. Great, great hotel. For sure have them make dinner reservations at Taberna Tipica Quarta Feira. They only had one seating and one meal choice when we were there in Oct. 2018, but it was fabulous. The first night we walked to Adega Do Alentejano for dinner. It was just a little tavern with great house wine. They put bread and olives on the table, but be aware that they charge extra for that.

We had a fabulous trip in Portugal. Hope you do, too.

We enjoyed our stay at the Pousada Évora Convento de Loios so much that it was hard to leave. It is located next to the Roman temple in the historic area. Dinner there was excellent too. We had a rental car so can’t help with any tours. Évora is such an interesting historic small city to visit. Enjoy your time there!

My daughter and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at Albergaria Do Calvário. Nice place with delicious breakfast and friendly and helpful staff.
You’ll find more details and useful information on my Évora trip report, if you’re interested.

Enjoy your trip!

We also stayed at Albergaria Do Calvario. Incredible customer service and an amazing breakfast. I recommend the restaurant "Mementos" in Evora.

We also highly recommend Albergaria Do Calvario. We stayed for 3 nights, in my opinion enjoy this gem as long as you can. We had a rental car so took day trips to nearby beautiful hilltop towns but enjoyed being home and walking in Evora mornings and evenings. Great restaurants in Evora.

The hotel is amazing…best customer service ever.
