Evora to Nazare by bus

Hi there,

According to Rick, getting to Nazare from Evora by bus involves a transfer in Lisbon. This is helpful to know but does anyone know whether tickets can be purchased from the bus station on day of travel or must be reserved ahead of time? Are there discounts for purchasing online and is the rede-expressos website easy to use?

Thanks so much for any help or advice.

Purchasing bus tickets on the day of travel is common practice. If the bus web site gives you trouble, then I wouldn't invest much time into it. Some European web sites are difficult to use with some US credit cards.

Thank you Laura. Just thought I could take advantage of discounts for online reservations, but I guess it only applies to train tickets.

I always hire a car in Portugal, as hiring is cheap, driving is easy and it's much quicker than using public transport, as your proposed journey indicaes. Driving would take half the time of the bus and with no hassle of changing in Lisbon.

If you goggled this route as I have just done, you would see that there is a 5% discount for online booking. Buses get very busy Friday through the weekends and at holiday times, so advance booking is advisable.

Also consider visiting Arelho do Foz as a smaller, more genuine Portuguese resort rather than Nazare.

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for your suggestions. I am travelling solo so won't have a navigator or someone to share the cost of rental cars with. Buses may be slower but I like rubbing shoulders with locals or other tourists and a bus journey is great for that. You may not get into a conversation with anyone but it is an interesting experience just to be the observer. Thanks also for recommending the beach town. It looks charming.
