Hi, we will have two nights in Evora over the holidays, December 30 and 31. We are traveling with our two teen boys. Would you recommend staying in the old town, especially given it will be New Year's Eve and we want to see the festivities, or the countryside? We will have a car and plan to do a combination of site seeing and horseback riding weather permitting, but just didn't know if given the time of year, staying in old town would be best. And to that point, any recommendations on festive places for dinner that will be open New Year's Eve. I know Octant Evora has a package but I am curious about any in town options? Thank you!
Have you checked on what type of festivities Evora does on NYE? Here in Cascais, it is great fun to be in town that evening. There are fireworks both here and at all the smaller towns between here and Lisbon. Lots of people are out prior to the fireworks at midnight.
I, personally would stay in town for that reason. However, I would hurry to make reservations both for accommodations and dinner as things will fill up, if they haven’t already.
I’m assuming you realize most everything is closed on New Year’s Day. Or, at least that’s the case in this area. It’s one of two days of the year where pretty much everything is closed.
