Does anyone know if the Evora City Tour runs year-round? I read about it in Rick's Portugal book 10th ed. It says the Evora City Tour runs a small, red bus that makes an hourly loop around town with a recorded narration for 7.50 euros. I have been unable to find any info about the tour online, but I've been disappointed to find that many bus tours in other Portugal cities are seasonal. I am traveling with my 87 year old father to Portugal in March, and from what I've read, driving is too difficult to consider in Evora. Hop-on, hop-off tours with narration are ideal for him. We are hoping to find out if the Evora City Tour is running in March, and where to board. Thank you.
Though it was a few years ago, I did the walking tour of Evora that was in the Portugal guide book. If the HOHO bus isn’t running, you might want to try it. I don’t remember any stairs other than paying for the option to climb the Cathedral’s tower. The Casa do Rua dos Burgos is a museum with 1 short and not steep flight of stairs leading to the remnants of the Roman wall. There might be an elevator as well. This Casa was one of the highlights of my trip because of the exhibit of paintings by a female Portuguese artist. These watercolors by Rainha D. Amélia were of 1 or 2 exquisitely rendered flowers each. Breathtaking!
As far as walking, you could easily rush this in an hour but take your time. It is in the center of Evora and has no steep hills and affords many places to rest and catch your breath. If you want lunch or dinner, visit Botequim Da Mouraria, Mouraria 16A. It only has 12-14 seats at a counter, doesn’t take reservations and afforded me the best meal I had in Portugal.
