We are seniors who have traveled Europe extensively. Now in our eighties we travel for food not landmarks! Previously visited Lisbon, Porto, & Algarve for total of 3 weeks. Now planning to relax at Palacio Estoril for 2 weeks using Uber and public transportation to visit & dine in Cascais and other small towns nearby. I know it seems a long time to spend in one place but hotel offers beautiful property with swimming pool and plenty of outdoor space.
Any suggestions for towns or restaurants we should visit would be appreciated.
In 2023 we spent a week in Cascais and our hotel recommended several good restaurants. O Pescador was very good for seafood. I remember looking at the split giant shrimp and trying to figure out how to free it from its shell and the stolid waiter breaking into a smile and doing it for me. On the yellow brick road we had very good tacos at Malacopa and great small plates and a lot of fun at Clandestina, loved the beef cheeks!
Yes, the Palacio is lovely, and there are many restaurants in Cascais with more opening frequently. I would be happy to share some of my favorites in a private message as I don’t want them flooded with tourists (any more than they already are). The towns between Estoril and Lisbon would all have restaurants but many would be the ‘typical Portuguese’ restaurant with quite similar menus. It’s quite easy to take the train into Lisbon and there are a number of good restaurants close to Cais do Sodré, the train station. One can also take the ferry across the Tejo to Calcilhas, where there a few nice places. Sintra, also has a few places, mostly closer to the beaches with fewer tourists.
Close to Cascais is Guincho beach. There are a number of lovely places along the water closer to Guincho. And, along the paredão between Estoril and Cascais are a number of seaside cafes and restaurants. None have spectacular food but the view makes up for it!
