Entry into Lisbon on weekend?

We are flying to Lisbon in August (hopefully!) and planning to head straight to Porto and other towns in the north, then return to Lisbon at the end of our trip for the last few days. Would we be allowed to enter Lisbon on a Sunday to go to our hotel? Or are we required to have a negative PCR test before we can re-enter Lisbon on a weekend? Or is it better to arrive back in Lisbon on a Monday?

I know this could change between now and when we depart...just wondering if anyone has any info.

From the US Embassy in Portugal: A travel restriction prohibiting entry into or out of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area is in effect for weekends (between 3PM on Fridays and 6AM on Mondays). Exceptions to this prohibition include holders of a European Digital Certificate of vaccination; a negative result for a PCR test conducted within 72 hours prior to boarding; a negative result for a rapid antigen test OR persons conducting essential travel for health or work (evidence required).

Thanks!

I would check with the hotel because the way I read it, as of now you don’t fit into any of those categories. Ask the hotel if your American vaccination card would be sufficient.

Good idea...I also just emailed the US Embassy in Portugal...HA! I'll post here if I hear anything. Thanks!

Gail...I'll let you know what I find out. I've messaged a few apartment hosts to see if they know anything.

I'm a bit discouraged about the trip, but this is the only time we can go. I supposed we could just leave out Lisbon entirely if necessary. There is certainly enough to do without going to Lisbon. But I do need to have a plan so I can make reservations. Seems like the north is okay for now.

I'm just going to make sure I can cancel everything up until the last minute.

Sorry, I can’t help with your entry question, but according to Portugal Resident newspaper, Porto and other areas in the north have been placed in the high risk category and restrictions have been introduced. Much can change before August.

Gail...One apartment owner said, "Under the current regulations, on weekends, non-residents are allowed to travel to and from the Lisbon metropolitan area, provided that you travel to a place of proven stay."

So I guess that's good news!

As a tourist, with proof of your hotel/apartment reservation or flight, you can enter and leave the Lisbon metropolitan area. Once in the area, you will find things pretty normal outside of the curfews. If you come on a Sunday, be prepared to do Uber eats for dinner as restaurants have to close at 3:30.

Of course, everything could be very different by then.

All of what I said yesterday, changed last evening. Please see the link I posted in my other post. There should be lots of info coming out today since it looks like the new restrictions come into effect today.
