Based on information I've seen on this site and through the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon website, U.S. passport holders can use the RAPID4ALL E-gates for arrivals and departures at the Lisbon airport. But.....based on the link to EPortugal.gov.pt website found on the embassy page, U.S. passport holders can only use those gates for departures: "To date, the system allows automatic recognition for people in the following situations: Entry and exit from Portugal - Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. Exiting Portugal - Brazil, Canada, South Korea, USA and Venezuela." Has anyone used these electronic gates to both enter and leave Portugal? We're going to visit Lisbon next month and don't want to get to the E-gate and then be sent off to the back of the other line.
When I returned from the US in late December, I used the electronic gates with my US passport. It was quick and easy. No questions about being able to use them. No worries. The signs leading into the gates have a US flag included with the others.
Thank you! That's good to know.
Ok unsure if it is the same but in Paris's CDG airport only 2 of dozen or so automatic gates were for Americans, make sure the the worker sees your passport so they place you in the correct gate as I didn't see them labeled.
