Elevadors, Lifts, Trams that will take you up the hills of Lisbon, not Santa Justa

Hi from Wisconsin,
When you search online for how to get up the hills of Lisbon, the answer is dominated by Santa Lusta lift. They must pay search engines a lot to be so dominant. There are tram like funiculars. There are escalators in buildings. I also know there are 'hidden' elevators. And I use the word elevator as a cabin that rises vertically. I have ridden one that is between Santa Justa and Rossio station. It is unmarked. Just a door you open to get to the elevator. I don't know if I could find or recognize it today.

Those of you in the know, where are these elevators?

Thanks,
wayne iNWI

I tried a variety of options this summer in Lisbon. The one I used the most was the elevator inside the Armazens do Chiado mall. The entrance is right next to the Mango store on Rua do Crucifixo. I believe you take it up to floor 5 and then walk out to Chiado. I tried going through the metro stop once, but some up the up escalators were broken so you had to walk up stairs anyway.

Elevadores: Gloria, Boca, Lavra.
We used Gloria to go up to where our apartment was located.

You know, they're not just in Lisbon... More "elevadors" and similar structures were built in other hilly places, around the world, during the same era (late 19th and early 20th century) through to more recent years. A handful of the old ones still are in use (there's another one in Porto).

I stumbled across this one in a neighborhood in Izmir, Turkey: The "the Asansör" in Izmir

There are more out there. They're cool. I wish there were more (my own city could actually use one...).
