Electronics when traveling.

I watched Rick Steves videos and they were saying to keep it simple and don’t bring too much stuff with you I’m only going to be in one place and it’s a very nice hotel. You think it’s OK to bring my iPad I have a large iPad than I’m used to 9 x12” If I leave it in the room do you think it’ll be safe there it’s a very nice hotel. And I wanted to also buy a new camera that’s really good the Sony RX 100 M6, Rick Steves suggested it in his one of his video I was watching that that’s what he uses and you can put it in your pocket. I know it’s a big expense but I mean how this might be the only trip to Portugal might as well get some good pictures. I also have my cell phone camera which is very good but not as good as the Sony.

Of course it's OK to bring your iPad if you think it will be useful on your trip. No one can tell you whether it will be safe to leave it in your room. A "very nice hotel" might be expected to provide an in-room safe you can use -- maybe your hotel can tell you about this ahead of your trip. If not, you should be able to leave something valuable at the front desk for safekeeping while you're out -- inconvenient, to be sure. Another option would be to leave such an item in your suitcase and get a small lock for it.

I leave my Kindle and small tablet in my zipped-shut (but not locked) suitcase and have not had a problem. But no one can guarantee your iPad's safety.

Charlotte,

There are no guarantees, but it should be fine to leave your iPad in the hotel room while you're out touring in the daytime. That's what I normally do with my Netbook and some of my camera gear. I usually leave electronics locked in one of my packs, and have never had a problem.

Note that you'll need to pack the appropriate Plug Adaptors in order to charge your electronic devices. Apple chargers are designed to work on a range of voltages from 100-240 VAC so you can just plug those in. You'll have to verify the Input Voltage spec's in the charger for your new Sony camera. Those will be listed somewhere on the charger.
