Earbuds needed inside Pena Palace?

I'm traveling with friends who want to go inside Pena Palace while visiting Sintra. We will get timed tickets as early in the day as possible. I've been through the palace but it's been about 5 years. Does anyone remember if they have reading plaques in English in the rooms? I'm really not interested in downloading the app and carrying earbuds to listen to the commentary as we walk through the rooms. I was hoping there was plaques in case we wanted to use those for information instead of the app and ear buds. Also, I don't know if the app would work if your phone was in airplane mode (does it require an internet connection). Thanks for your input....

I was recently at the palace and recall some plaques, but they were all really lacking in descriptive information. I felt this way with all the sights I visited in Portugal compared to other countries I have visited. They could add better signs and information about what we look at in the historical sights. I think one would get more out of visits to sights in Portugal if they downloaded and listened to an informational app like Rick's Audio Europe.

As a follow up in case anyone searches for this topic, I purchased the audio guide for our tour through Pena Palace in Sintra. In most every room I found the exact same writing on the plaques in the room as was available in the audio guide. Once I figured this out (and that fact that almost no one around us was using the audio guide), I turned off the audio guide and just read the room plaques as I came across them.

I find Rick's self guided tours from his books to be more than enough information for me. I tear out those pages and quietly read them to my hubby as we go.

I didn't know Rick Steves had an audio guide tour for the inside of Pena Palace specifically? I'll remember to look there for sure in the future. Thanks.

We were there the middle of April and there were lots of plaques in English to read in the rooms. The crowds are way too large for informational plaques with a lot of detail and you do have docents continually trying to move you along. If you’re someone that wants a lot of information there were quite a few small groups with personal guides or you could read about the palace before you go in detail and use the plaques as references to what you’ve read about. I also advise going as early in the day as possible and get the ticket for the bus from admission up to the palace itself.

Just an update: I don't see that Rick Steves app has any Pena Palace audio guide.
