My wife and I plan on spending 2-3 days in Porto and then driving to the Duoro Valley in May 2023. We are not huge wine drinkers but are going there to enjoy the scenery, the vineyards, and frankly, relax. I'd like to stay in a Quinta that has nice rooms and a restaurant with decent food (the food doesnt need to be fancy) so we can enjoy dinners and scenery there, soak up the sun, enjoy a walk and do and some wine tasting without worrying about driving afterwards. Can anyone suggest Quintas along the Duoro that they would recommend? Ricks book lists about 6 (a few not available or suitable) at this point we're trying to narrow down suggestions to places with nice views up on the terraces. I don't know if there are many that are up on the hills but are accessible walking to other quintas for wine tasting. Thanks so much.
A number of forum contributors have recommended Quinta de La Rosa. We were in Porto and the Douro Valley 5 years ago. Our tour group stayed at the Vintage House. It was lovely. It had a stunning view of the terraces. This link may be helpful: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/portugal/quinta-in-duoro-valley Enjoy your planning! The Douro Valley was the highlight of our tour.
I’m one of the posters who recommend Quinta de la Rosa right outside of Pinhão. I’ve stayed there twice. Lovely rooms, views, restaurant, tours and tastings. It’s a fair walk to town so we used taxi’s to and from the train station, other wineries and a boat cruise.
