If we drive from Seville to Salema in the dark will we miss a beautiful drive along the Algarve coast, or is it a highway that would be okay to miss?

The freeway is five miles from the coast, more as you pass above Faro. There's a couple of short stretches where you can barely see the water in the distance.
Even in daylight, you can't actually drive the whole coast along the water since there's a lot ofback and forth so get to some of the sections.

Of course, do make arrangements with your hotel if you expect to arrive late. Owners or reception staff may not always be around.
