Flying into Lisbon for a river cruise that starts in Porto. Thinking we may take time and drive up the coast. Have never driven in Europe before. Any suggestions as to what towns to stop in, what's the drive like? We do have the option of adding the pre-cruise package which takes us up to Porto from Lisbon.
Thanks
The drive is an easy one. One can take the mostly toll highway or one can take backroads to avoid the tolls. It all depends on how much time you have.
Towns between Lisbon and Porto we stopped at included Óbidos, Nazaré, Tomar, and Coimbra. We also visited Alcobaca and Batalha monasteries, Almourol castle, Conimbriga ruins, Fátima, Viseu, Lamego, and Aveiro.
Another vote for Coimbra and Tomar. Obidos is also worth a stop but much more touristy.
