My wife and I will be in Porto for 5 nights in September and wanted to do a day trip to the Douro Valley. Does anyone have any highly recommended tour companies to use? Sounds like most include a 1 hour boat ride and a visit to a few wineries. We prefer small groups over large ones

I did one with Cool Tours Oporto. It was around 8 people in a van. I believe others on this forum have also recommended them.
I second the recommendation regarding Cool Tours. We took the tour a few years ago, and were very pleased. They used a van for about six or eight, stopped at two wineries, and included lunch.
Get ahold of Miguel on What's App at +351924481684. He does tours from a van with parties of 5-8 and is very good. He speaks 5 languages and is local, so you won't hit the major tourist spots. Had one of the best fish dinners ever on his tour (last SEPT) at a place I'd never have found on my own.

We just returned from a 10-day stay in Porto, and we hired an amazing guide to take us through the Douro Valley (easily the highlight of our trip). His name is Daniel Ferreira. Such a knowledgeable, engaging, intelligent young man, with a genuine passion for the beauty, history, and significance of his Douro Valley homeland. He tailored a perfect day for us, which included roundtrip transportation to/from our hotel in Porto, lunch, photo ops, two quintas, wine tastings, a one-hour river cruise, and dinner... plus an abundance of laughter and fellowship. Although we hadn't met him prior to the tour (though we did communicate via email) Daniel immediately treated us like friends, not tourists. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants a truly meaningful experience in the Douro Valley.
