Would like to do an overnite stay in the Douro Valley. Thinking of taking the train from Porto. Taxi to our accomodation. Any suggestions on where to stay, wine tours and perhaps a boat tour while there? We would then return by train unless there is a boat/cruise that heads back to Porto?
Lots of very recent posts on the gorgeous Douro Valley. We stayed at Quinta do Tedo. A working winery where guests at the BnB get a free tour and tastings
I’ve stayed at Quiinta de la Rosa twice and recommended to numerous friends. It’s in Pinhao, right on the river with great views, a very good restaurant and tour of their winery. If you’re there at harvest time, you can even tread grapes!
You can take a 1-2 hour cruise from Pinhao that I enjoyed.
I didn't stay at Quinta de la Rosa, but a huge advantage is being in walking distance of wineries, restaurants, the train station and the river where cruises start. It is a good location for those without a car.
Jules has a point about staying in the Douro without a car. I loved my stay at Quinta do Tedo, but found some difficulty with obtaining a taxi/shared ride from the Quinta to any of the towns (which were about a 10 minute drive from Quinta do Tedo).
