We will be in the Douro Valley with a car for one week at the end of May (after 4 days in Porto, and before continuing on to Evora and Lisbon). Our rooms are already booked, so this is a question about what to do when we are there. We love eating, scenic areas, towns and history....not too many museums. We like wine, but one or two wineries during that time is enough for us. Here is what I am thinking:
Day 1 - Pick up car in Porto and drive to Sabrosa via Peso Da Regua and Pinhao. Sleep in Sabrosa
Day 2-Lamego. Sleep in Sabrosa
Day 3-Drive to Chaves via Vila Real. Sleep in Chaves
Day 4-Botica. Sleep in Chaves
Day 5-Drive to Ponte de Lima via Guimaraes. Sleep in PdL
Day 6-Braga. Sleep in PdL
Day 7-Viana do Castelo. Sleep in PdL.
Day 8-Drive to Evora with stop in Tomar.
We would be spending time wandering around to 3 towns where we are staying when we have time. I don't want to drive someplace more than about one hour away, unless it is a must-see. We like taking things slow, but is this too slow? Are there places we should add? Any suggestions are appreciated.
