Douro Valley day trip from Porto

I am a solo traveler wanting to do a day trip to the Douro valley in September. Looking at the usual tours which include a couple of wineries, lunch and a boat trip. Departing and returning to Porto. I prefer a mini-van experience over a large group of 16 or more.

I've heard good things about Cooltours Oporto though the price is rather high, around $167. Get your Guide, Viator and Airbnb Experiences also offer versions of this tour for less but wondering if these will be done in larger buses.

Appreciate experience from others who have done this day trip from Porto. Thanks!

I did the CoolTours 11 years ago and thought it was quite good. It gave a good introduction to the Douro. The driver was very good and lunch was in a typical Portuguese restaurant. It wasn’t so expensive then. You should be able to check the others to see if they are big buses or vans.

I’d focus more on the actual operator and maximum group size than whether the booking is through Viator or GetYourGuide. Both have small-group and larger options, so I’d check the individual listing carefully.

For a solo traveller I’d probably prioritise a group of around 8-12, two winery visits, lunch included, and a Douro river cruise as part of the day.

I pulled together some of the Douro Valley options I was comparing here: Douro Valley tour options
