Douro Valley

We are staying 3 nites in Porto and trying to decide if we should add another night in the Douro Valley. Can anyone suggest a great place to stay with a view in the Douro Valley from Sept 12-13th or should we skip it and do the day trips with cruising up the river. We will have a vehicle.

Thanks!

There is also the option of taking a train from Porto upriver. It is a bit harder to see everything
but it's also quite inexpensive.

I can suggest two hotels:

Original Douro Hotel in Peso de Regua
Vintage House in Pinhao

Some of the quintas may also offer great lodging options, but those two hotels are easy walking
distance from the train station, which for 1 night may be helpful. The quintas may be up the hill a bit,
though, and have better views.

Maybe train up, spend the night, cruise back? Kind of depends what you want to do. Spending
a night gives you option to do wine tasting and have dinner in town.

You might check out Quinta de la Rosa in Pinhao. It is a bit from the train station but taxis are available if you don’t drive. The views are stunning. They have a tour and wine tasting and a great restaurant. It’s more reasonably priced than some quintas. The big challenge might be getting a room this late.

It will also likely be ‘crush’ season in the Douro, with the aroma of crushed grapes filling the grounds of any of the Quinta’s.. That alone is worth the trip!
