Douro Valley by Train

This is similar to a previous thread, but I have a little more specific question. As part of our Fall visit to northern Portugal, we are considering taking the train from Porto to Coa Valley. (I really want to take the train ride.) From Pocinho or Freixo de Numão station, we will arrange transfer to a nearby hotel so we can visit the Coa Archeological site. We will stay 2 nights near the archeological site so we have a full day there. Are there any overnight stops we can/should make along the route that don’t require a car? We have up to 5 days for the round trip excursion. We will be getting a car for travel north of Porto for a few days later in our trip. Any ideas/advice much appreciated.
