We will have a car and be coming from Coimbra then on to Porto after the Douro. We aren't interested in tastings, just scenery.
How best to see it? Maybe a combo?
Has anyone treaded grapes?
We plan to do a train trip in late September.
I am quite anal retentive so I made a page just for it.
I chose Tua as the end point because I want to see the new dam.

We did a five day river cruise and loved it. The Scenery was amazing.
We noticed that the railroad runs right next to the river. It goes pretty far up river.
The highways will involve a lot of hills, but you can do the drive.
We rented a car in fall 2016 and that is our choice for the next trip. It provides the freedom to visit small towns and gives you the choice of quintas to visit. There is some beautiful scenery in this area along with friendly people. Don't be afraid to get lost!
