I’m planning on flying into Lisbon and out of Porto for my tour in April. Would prefer a direct flight from Seattle but that long on a plane is a killer and can’t do yoga in the aisle. Suggestions for making the trip more tolerable? Thank you
Do you mean non-stop or just direct which may include stop overs en route.
Ambien or wine! But, not both.....Movies, books, puzzles, if you have an ipad, load it up.
There are no non-stop flights from Seattle to Lisbon, Porto, or anywhere else in either Portugal or even Spain so...problem solved? The closest you could get to anywhere in Portugal on a nonstop flight from Seattle is Paris.
You're going to have to include at least one stop somewhere along the way to get from Seattle to Portugal. TAP does have a nonstop flight from SFO to LIS. Many more options if you connect somewhere on the US east coast or catch one of the few nonstops from SEA to Europe, then connect there.
Personally, my preference is to get a nonstop from home to someplace in Europe, and make any necessary connection there. I prefer to get the long flight out of the way first (gives you a better chance of getting some sleep that way). Few things are worse than a miserable redeye overnight out of Seattle to the east coast, a connection there, then get on a flight to Europe. No thanks.
If it's any consolation, flights to Europe seem like a very short, easy hop once you get to experience flying to Australia or SE Asia...

Business class.

This strategy would also allow one to clear into Schengen at any airport other than LIS—if you think the flight is long, wait until you see that line for passport control! (And this was the case for years before the current situation more broadly.)
Thanks for the heads up about Passport Control at Lisbon.
