dinner reservations necessary in Lisbon or Porto ?

Are dinner reservations recommended in either Lisbon or Porto during the second and third week of June?

We were just in Portugal. A reservation for dinner was absolutely necessary. We struggled both nights in Porto to find a place we could get in. We were in Lisbon over the weekend and it was extremely busy. We made reservations, just day of, for every place we ate at. We did see people turned away or waiting until 9pm for the first wave of people to leave.

Hi!

Yes, reservations are very much recommended. You can do it using "The Fork", or even at some restaurants using their site, or the old way, making a phone call. And you should start as soon as possible. Some restaurants (the smaller ones) can get fully booked very quickly. For instance, last year I try to book "Taberna dos Mercadores" in Porto 15 days in advance, for a week day, and it was too late.

Besides always being recommended to book a restaurant, the main hollyday in Lisbon, "Santo António", is 13/June (the big party being 12 to 13), and the one in Porto, "São João", is 24/June (big party night 23-24).
