We were in Porto in April 2023. We made the mistake of not making reservations. One of the nights it was actually a bit hard to find a place to eat. We liked the places we ended up at, but nothing phenomenal that I'd recommend. We tried to get in Chama but were unable to. People had been raving about it.

Depends on what you like while traveling.

A lot of people prefer to try new local dishes. Some prefer vegan/vegetarian food.

Many people consider fine dinning as important as sightseeing. To some others, it's waste of previous sightseeing time.

Be specific and folks here may answer accordingly.

For quiet, informal, lots of variety.:
De Terra in the heart of Porto was excellent

It's buffet with 20+ dishes. So you can sample various things.

But if you must have animal body parts as part of your meals than this may not work as it is a vegetarian place.

We were only in Porto 2 days and 1 night but had fantastic recommendations from our hotel concierge. We went to Brasao for lunch and Ode Porto Wine house for dinner. Both were wonderful! We stayed across from Se Catedral and walked across bridge and took gondola to wine houses on Gaia side of river. It was magical and so romantic-we loved Porto!
