Dining in Oporto

We are going to be in Oporto for Thanksgiving this year. We are looking for somewhere authentic and good that will not require a mortgage. Language is not an issue as we speak a little Portuguese and are fluent Spanish speakers. Any ideas? Thanks

Porto is not expensive in general so I don’t think any good restaurant will be too bad. Porto has the highest proportion of English speakers of any European city (outside the uk obviously) and people will prefer that you speak to them in English rather than Spanish if you aren’t actually Spanish.

Well, you still have some time. So, search these, for authentic and good food(we don't believe much in mortgages, so your question is if you might have to sell a kidney...):

  • "O Buraco", at Rua do Bolhão. Your kidneys will be safe with this one.
  • "Antunes", at rua do Bonjardim. Perhaps half a kidney will have to go...
  • "O Escondidinho", at Rua de Passos Manuel: say byby to both kidneys and think about a 2nd mortgage of your house...
  • "Pote Velho", at Rua Domingos Machado. One kidney might be enough.
  • "Antiqvvum"... sell all your family, and have the meal of your life!

BTW,
The name of the city both in English and Portuguese is "Porto".
"Oporto" = "O Porto" = " the port".
