Details of a Duoro daytrip - boat tour from Regua?

We'll be doing a daytrip to see the Duoro. From what I can see, we do as follows:

Early train (maybe 9:25) to Regua (two hours), then I understand that one gets a boat from here to Pinhao.
Then train back to Porto from Pinhao. (Looks like it needs to be the 18:11, since the 14:10 is too early.)

Does anyone have a suggestion for a boat company? We're a couple with a 10-year-old, so hitting one vineyard (two max) and having a late lunch in Pinhao would be the extent of it for us. Thanks for any vineyard/restaurant recommendations.

Hello Amy,

Tremdouro and Douro Azul are two companies Rick recommends for river cruises along the Douro. I used Tremdouro a few years ago for the cruise between Regua and Pinhao and enjoyed it.

So I've been reading further and I wonder if there is a need to get get off Regua at all. Could we simply train to Pinhao and boat tour from there, visit a winery and then get back on the train? Sounds like the scenery from Pinhao further inland may be more spectacular anyway?

Hello Amy,

Certainly! You could take the train all the way to Pinhao, do some wine tastings, then take a boat ride from Pinhao downriver to Regua, where you could catch the train back to Porto. You will want to be sure and check the schedules beforehand, as trains can have sporadic schedules. See the Portuguese railways website for schedules and tickets.
