We are spending four days in Porto (no rental car) and we’re interested in a day trip to the Douro Valley. Can anyone suggest day trip options without renting a car? Or would we have more options if we do a one day car rental? Thanks for any suggestions
Do not drive if you are going to taste wine (and you should if you enjoy wine-there is much more than Port). Also, the driver, who cannot drink, will miss most of the scenery as roads are winding with steep drop offs. Google “Douro valley tours from Porto” and choose one. Much more relaxed, very much worth it.
Actually you’ll taste lots of Port staying in Porto, but, to really enjoy the very good variety of wines coming from the Douro region you need to go.
Last year early June, we did a small group tour with Cooltour Oporto. Pick up from hotel, with winery stops, lunch, and a small hour long river cruise. Knowledgeable guide. Reasonably priced. I think it was about 8 hours. Good for an introduction to the area and you'll want to see the views instead of driving yourself.
