We are looking for additional sightseeing both in and outside of Porto. We already have a 2 day tour of the Douro valley and Pinhao and some wineries. We are then staying 3+ extra days in Porto and would like suggestions. We are considering Santiago and also Braga and could use additional ideas. Thank you in advance! jjkc

Guimarães is another one that can be reached by public transporation.
Will you have a car? If so, i have a few more suggestions, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo, and Peneda-Geres National Park.

When we stayed in Porto, we took a day trip to Coimbra by train. The University of Coimbra is there and they have an interesting natural oddities section in their science museum. The Joanina Library is also on the campus which is one of the top libraries in the world. You can also get authentic Portuguese ceramics and tiles in town which I found to be of superior quality to the ceramics for sale in other parts of Portugal.
