Day trips from Lisbon

Looking at flying into Lisbon and out of Porto or just staying in Lisbon for 6 nights and doing day trips. I know Sintra and Lagos are cool but are there any other good day trips that are closer?

Sintra’s actually about as close to Lisbon as you can get for a day trip. Closer than Lagos are Evora (charming town nowadays, but also was former ancient Roman village, plus cork forests, Neolithic dolmen, all in interior of Portugal, and then Óbidos, which is fairly close to Lisbon.

Also, for Sinatra, it’s a very easy train ride from Lisbon. The day we went was cool, misty and foggy but that lent a certain ethereal air to our visit. We spent the day, toured the castles etc and then had a terrific lunch in the small and lovely town. Then took the train back “home”. It was a lovely day.

Lagos is way too far for a day trip. It’s about four hours on the train.

The other posters mentioned good places close to Lisbon. There is also Mafra, Tomar, and Ericeira. However, the bus is likely better to these towns than the train.

Thank you. Is it better to do Lisbon and Porto staying 3 nights in each?

I think probably better to do 4 days in Lisbon(one for Lisbon itself, one for Obidos, one for Evora and 1 for Sintra )and 2 in Porto. A nice day trip from Porto by train is Coimbra
