We are flying into Lisbon 4 days before meeting up with our tour. Since we will have lots of time in Lisbon itself, I’m wondering if we should spend one or two of our free days doing day trips. We will be there in mid-March. Any suggestions for day trips outside of Lisbon?

Two classic day trips are Sintra and Cascais, both very easy by train.
Cascais is a beach resort town with fish restaurants etc.
Sintra of course has its palaces - you can catch a bus from the train station which takes you up to the wildly-decorated bright yellow Pena Palace.
Also, kind of within Lisbon but out of the centre, make sure you get to Belem.

Both Sintra and Cascais are very heavily impacted by tourism. Both are still beautiful though.
