day trip to Seville

We are considering a day trip from Tavira to Seville. Any suggestions about the drive? Crossing the border? Also any suggestions for an obviously very abbreviated itinerary? Thanks!

The trip should take an hour and forty-five minutes and crossing the border is like driving from one state to another. When you get to Seville, park in the first parking lot you can find near the Jardines de Cristina near the Puente San Telmo. There are some lots an Av. Roma.

From there, it’s an easy walk to the historic center (Rick’s Spain guide has a great walking tour of the area.) and to the Plaza de España.

Many Portuguese car hire companies charge extra for driving in Spain, so check your terms.

Parking is difficult in Seville, so consider taking the bus rather than drive. If you do drive, fill up your tank in Spain, as petrol is cheaper there.

Crossing the border is a non event - just drive over the bridge.

Spanish time is an hour ahead of Portugal and even in the winter, they take siesta time, where shops close for several hours between noon and 3pm. Portugal doesn't! Spanish lunch hours are 2pm to 3.30 pm and dinner is 9pm onwards. Portugal lunch is noon to 2pm and dinner from 6.30pm.
