Day Excursion to Sintra

We are on the September 25 Heart of Portugal trip this month. We will be arriving in Lisbon a day ahead of time and were wondering about the feasibility of taking a day excursion to Sinatra since it’s not on the tour. From my limited research it appears that Sinatra can be quite crowded and touristy, however, some of the attractions do look inviting. If we take the train independently it looks like we will also need to take local buses to the main attractions. We’ve also looked into taking a paid excursion from Lisbon, but it appears that they are about 8 hours and we need to be back in our hotel at 5:00 pm for our initial group meeting and tour.
We would appreciate any thoughts from others. Is this idea worth pursuing and what logistics would you suggest? Thanks so much for your thoughts!

I believe you are referring to SINTRA. (NOT Sinatra!)
We took the train from Lisbon and spent the day touring independently. It wasn’t crowded or touristy when we visited but that was a while ago.

Two days ago we took an Uber from Lisbon (Belem) to Sintra ($25.00 - 25 minutes). Then we took bus #434 up to the Pena Palace ($9.50 each round trip) entrance. Once at the PP entrance we took another small bus (about $3.00 each) up to the PP (would have been a manageable 8-10 minute walk). You need a timed ticket to visit the PP and the walk through takes about an hour. It was very worthwhile!

If you simply go to Sintra you can visit the Nacional Palace right there in town (about $15.00) without the extra buses. Sintra is touristy but it's beautiful and fun - and if you look up the Moorish Castle is above the town. You should visit Sintra!!!

Thanks, Suki! I actually knew that and didn’t realize that auto correct changed it to Sinatra. Just now as I was writing this reply it tried to change your name to Sukiyaki! I appreciate you noticing the error.
