Hi Lisa: I believe you re correct. As of Oct. 1 the updated "rules" drop the testing requirement for hotel checkin. And loosen the masking requirements. I was glad to see the testing dropped (we have 14 hotels booked). Of course - rules can change. Are you heading over soon?
This is the information I received on Oct. 1st from the team at Portugal Trails (who did some of my bookings):
"After the 1st of October, as the country reaches 85% of the population completely vaccinated, masks will be required only on public transportation, event venues, shopping centres and hospitals and nursing homes.
Plus, the proof of vaccination or negative covid test will only be required when entering the country by air or sea, visit to health facilities, great events and bars and night clubs. Which means that hotel stays and restaurants are now exempted from this. All establishments will also be back to their full capacity and timetables."
BUT - the proof of vaccination (exemption to test) for entry applies to EU citizens with the EU digital Covid certificate. I think US citizens still have to do a test prior to heading to Portugal (and of course on our way home). We plan to test this Monday for our Wed. departure since it looks as if United will still require to board. Then "our" Vac. cards are good for all other required sites.
Hoping that by mid-November the test will be dropped.. That is anyone's guess.
