Credit Card for Portugal Hotel when adding nights to your RS hotel

How did you handle emailing your credit card information to your hotel for an extended stay reservation at your hotel (your first or last stay). It feels awkward emailing the information, but they don't have a way for it to be done electronically.
I'm not sure how the information is handled or if it's secure.
Advice is appreciated.

Can you call them? Or ask them to call you if you don't have international calling?

We just finished making arrangements for our fourth tour. Each time we have used the Hotel website reservation system. This is typically a secure link. You are correct that e-mailing information is not secure. If we have an e-mail contact we sometimes have asked ahead what level of room to reserve. We have also added a note to the reservation on-line that we will continue with the RS Tour and prefer to have the same room. Usually there is a spot when reserving that allows adding a special request or note.

You could use WhatsApp to call them using wifi if you can't call international.

First of all, we never use intermediaries, too many horror stories of things gone wrong, plus I suspect it can cost more.

If the hotel has a good website checkin, we do that. As mentioned, that can be secure enough.

If they don't have a good web-based checkin, we call them and give a card # over the phone.
Calling can be just with your normal carrier. Or, Whatsapp, or Google Voice can be quite cheap or free.

As said, I'd never put that information in an email, even if I used an encrypted email program, as there would then be an email floating around a hotel computer.

Note; I'm a believer in Tmobile for international traveling, as are a number of folks here. However, when I recently called a Dublin hotel, it was a fairly long call, and I was surprised that it cost me $16. I should have read the fine print about international calling with the plan I have.

travelerguy, We also have T-Mobile. You can get unlimited international calling from the US for $15/month. We added the family plan for $20/month to cover both of our lines.
