sleeping at the airport in Lisbon?

We have a 505am flight out of Lisbon on 7 October. We don't see any point in staying in a hotel for the evening of 6 October since we would have to get to the airport by 3am. We are thinking of checking out of our Airbnb on 6 October and just enjoying Lisbon; heading to the airport late that evening. Does the airport allow folks to "crash" there as they wait for their flight? Also, does the Metro run 24/7 if we need to get to the airport by 3am? Thanks.

And here I thought your post was going to share the exciting experience of your plane crash in Lisbon!
The post was somewhat more ordinary, but also more positive.
5:05 am, now that’s an early flight! You might best just stay out drinking late on Oct 6, then catch a late taxi or Uber and hope for some coffee at the airport.

No, the metro does not run 24/7. I spent the night at Lisbon airport Dec 2019 with my daughter. Lots of people, including kids, and had no problems. Most individuals spent the night in the food court area. McDonalds has benches you can lay across with plug-ins for phones. And around the corner are some S shaped couches you can lay down and sleep. We were airside, had a very long layover, so just didn't leave the airport prior to a morning flight. They turn the heat down, so make sure you have a sweater. I got chilled in the middle of the night. Not too bad but impacted my sleep.

I have a similar situation in May. I will fly in from Funchal on one ticket. Then fly out on another ticket at 5:30 am. I'll be flying from Lisbon to LAX, so I might have extra security. I see that you are allowing 2 hours before your flight time. Is that enough? Does uber or Lyft run at that time in the am?

Because I'm flying on 2 separate tickets ( I haven't booked the short flight from Funchal to Lisbon, yet) I feel safest booking an early flight from Funchal. It makes a longer layover, for sure, but allows for flight delays. I don't want to miss that 2nd flight! Now - what to do in Lisbon?

I suppose that I could take the Metro into the city center, but if the Metro isn't running, it doesn't make sense to stay in a hotel there - unless I want to pay for a more expensive cab ride back in the middle of the night. I could also stay close to the airport. There is a metro stop there that I could take to the city for the evening and then return to the hotel for a few hours of sleep. Or, I could just stay in the area of the airport. Note: I did the major sights in Lisbon last Fall, and will have more time there at the beginning of this trip, so I've seen most of the big sights around there.

There are a couple of airport hotels that are walking distance from the Lisbon airport that would make it easy for a very early morning flight. And yes, it's an easy metro ride from the airport to the city. Could check-in at the hotel, leave baggage, and then catch the metro into Lisbon to spend the day/evening, then ride back to sleep for a few hours.
